5 Tips for a Stress-Free Valentine’s Day

It happens more often than most of us would like to admit. Valentine’s Day sneaks up on you, and you end up stressing out or scrambling to make last minute plans. Luckily, we have a few simple tips to help you #WINVDAY this year.

1. Have a Plan

Whether you decide to stay in or go out, it’s important to have a plan of how you and your partner want to celebrate the occasion. Have a plan squared away at least a week in advance so you don’t have to stress about last minute planning. Consider all the little details so nothing unexpected comes up. We suggest making an itinerary. This will help you keep track of everything and will ensure you don’t miss a single thing.

2. Book Things in Advance

If you’re planning on going out on Valentine’s Day, you’re going to want to make sure you have everything booked in advance.  This goes for dinner reservations, buying your movie tickets, and calling ahead about parking. The last thing you want to deal with is a sold-out movie theater or your favorite restaurant fully booked. If you have kids, make sure you secure your sitter early on so you’re not scrambling to find last minute childcare. While you’re at it, don’t forget to block off your schedule at work so no last minute meetings come up and you can’t leave in time.

3. Order Gifts Ahead of Time

Ordering gifts in advance not only ensures that they will arrive on time, but you are also able to put more thought into them. Shopping early also means having the largest selection of items before things sell out. Have you ever been to a card aisle the day before Valentine’s Day? It’s slim pickings, total chaos, and you’re practically bumping elbows with the people next to you. Don’t let your once thoughtful gift turn into “whatever I can find on such short notice.” Avoid all of this unnecessary stress and get your gifts in place.

4. Celebrate Early

Most people forget you don’t have to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the actual day itself for it to be meaningful.  Why not go and enjoy your own Valentine’s Day a few days before? This could help you avoid the crowd, get some extra-special treatment at the restaurant of your choosing, and go out on a night that is convenient for you and your loved one. And, you don’t have to worry about rushing to get out of work early and can take things at your own pace. Plus, who wouldn’t love to receive sweet treats a few days early?

5. Plan Something Fun

Dinner and a movie are always enjoyable, but trying something new and spontaneous might be just what you need. Plan something fun that you both can look forward to so it’s not stressful and doesn’t feel like an obligation. Always wanted to learn the tango? Take a class together. Or, how about finding a local live music show? Break away from the crowd and try something new this Valentine’s Day.

The most important thing to remember is to just go with the flow and enjoy yourself. Valentine’s Day only comes around once a year so don’t waste the day distracted by trying to make it “perfect.” What matters most is that you’re spending it with the person you love!
