Date Night Ideas

A great date night is obviously essential when you’re dating someone, but it’s also important to plan regular date nights if you’re married or in a long-term relationship – no matter how long you’ve been together. It comes with an assortment of chocolate dipped fruits, Maddy & Maize™ Dark Chocolately Caramel Popcorn, a dozen fresh-baked cookies so you can spend less time preparing snacks in the kitchen and more time cuddling on the couch.

“The best date night ideas are the ones that clearly demonstrate personalization and thinking outside the box.

Be on alert every day to pick up on little things or comments your significant other makes about things they like or might want to do. Quietly take notes and use that information to plan a date night. Not only does this practice help you to knock date night out of the park, but it also helps you to get to know your love interest even better.”

“My favorite date night idea is going to a museum with my wife. Why?

Well, there we can see a bunch of people who are obviously on a first date. Those couples bring some nice memories of our first date, so we start a role play and pretend it’s our first date too.”

“I have a perfect date night idea: stargazing.

Stargazing is romantic, educational, and a wonderful way to have a new experience with your partner. Plus, it’s completely free!

For the best viewing conditions, you need to get away from light pollution, which means heading away from the city. Even in the biggest cities, you can usually find an ideal spot within a 30-minute drive.

Consider bringing a picnic dinner and a blanket, then simply lie back and watch the stars. There are also several apps that can enhance stargazing by identifying constellations and offering helpful hints about the best dates and times to see certain stars. Check out SkyView Lite or SkySafari.”

“Here are my three best date night ideas:

  • Do nothing: Yep, you read right. Date night is for spending time together; an opportunity to connect with one another. Sometimes, the best way to connect is to lay in one another’s arms, light a scented candle, listen to soft music and do…nothing. Enjoy the tranquility of just being. Enjoy the feeling of being loved and the gentle touch of the one who loves you. Sometimes doing nothing (together) is the greatest date night ever!
  • Grab a treat: Date night doesn’t have to be extravagant. It is a time to give to your relationship and refocus on your partner. The next time you want a simple, yet intimate date night experience, try grabbing one of your favorite treats and taking a walk on the beach together. You’ll get to feel the breeze of the ocean, enjoy something sweet and spend quality time with your significant other. It’s a win-win…WIN situation!
  • Movie night: Who doesn’t like the movies? Well, you don’t have to leave the house to have a movie date night. Schedule a movie time right in your living room and make it a fun evening. Create a homemade concession stand with your favorite candies, drinks, popcorn, and anything else you can think of. Then turn the lights off, the sound up, and enjoy!”

Its game-like features and rewards system makes it a great game for date night. Because the questions are designed to be repeatable, the game can be played over and over again.

We’ve created our perfect idea of a game for date night. As date nights are meant to help couples reconnect, they can do this with Better Topics, and never giving up the fun and playfulness.”

“Here are a few of my favorite date night ideas:

  • Drive out of town for some star-gazing. There’s nothing more romantic than gazing up at the starry night sky and finding the different constellations with your partner. You can download an app like SkyView to help you find celestial objects.
  • Take a yoga or meditation class together. Meditating with your partner can help you feel a new type of connection to one another. Who knows, your partner might wind up loving yoga or meditation, and it can become an activity you do together!
  • Try a new dance class, like Salsa or Bachata. Learning a new skill together can make you stronger as a couple. When you get home, you can practice the moves you learned together to continue the fun!”

“After about a year of quarantine, many date night ideas have gone stale.

Many of us have been stuck with our romantic partner for far longer than we’re used to and have exhausted all the traditional date night ideas. However, there’s one I’m sure you haven’t tried that is sure to spice things up!

Something new that my partner and I have been trying recently is what we call the ‘Yelp Lottery.’ One of us will pick a type of food we’re wanting to get for dinner, like “Italian,” and then search for it on Yelp with a radius of up to 40 miles. Then, one of us will scroll on the phone until the other says stop, and whichever restaurant is at the top of the screen at that moment, we have to drive to and try.

This worked well, even when most restaurants were just doing takeout. Typically, we’d listen to a podcast on the way there about something we’re both interested in (murder mysteries are a great place to start!), and by the time we arrived at the restaurant, we’d usually be in a place we weren’t very familiar with a spark of curiosity and wonder in the air.”

“My favorite date night is when my husband and I pick a food category and try a bunch of different samples within that category.

For example, if we pick apples, we’ll buy 5 different apple varieties. Then we’ll make a game out of it and take turns offering apple slices to our blind-folded partner and see if they can guess which variety it is.

It’s a relatively inexpensive activity that’s fun, memorable, and entertaining. You get educated on the food’s varieties and learn about your preferences. It’s also fun recording the experience on video and looking back on it. You can do this activity with many different foods and food types including chocolates, popcorn seasonings, and even hot sauces!”

“With coronavirus, you have to be creative with date night ideas and make the best of the situation.

I recall this one evening, we decided to have a date night at home. We cooked each other’s favorite meals, mine was steak and mashed potatoes and hers was grilled chicken with steamed vegetables. We set up the dinner table with flowers and lit candles while our favorite classical music playing in the background. Although we were at home, we still dressed up for each other. To be honest, that’s one thing we both miss the most, dressing up and feeling good about ourselves. We had dinner and were really enjoying each other’s company.

After dinner, we went outside to our patio and had some wine as we continued to joke and flirt with each other. I recall we were both in the moment and it felt normal for once. At the moment we had no care for the world. It was one of the best feelings in the world and an evening I will never forget.

Afterward, we watched The Notebook, an all-time classic, as we cuddled under a blanket.”

“One great date night idea is to have an at-home picnic barbeque.

You can easily do this by buying some high-quality lean meat, or tofu and vegetables if you’re a vegetarian, and taking the time to cook it on your grill in your backyard or inside on a frying pan if you don’t have a grill. You can then make it special by laying out a blanket in the yard, bringing out some side plates, drinks, and dessert, and making it a
special dinner outside.”

“The key to a delightful DIY date night in quarantine is a strong theme that’s relevant to your relationship.

My partner and I loved traveling together before the pandemic, and one of our favorite annual trips was journeying to New York City to see the newest Broadway musicals. Last month, we had a New York City night. Veselka, the beloved East Village Ukrainian restaurant, delivers nationwide on Goldbelly and happens to be my partner’s favorite place on Earth. We ordered borscht and pierogi to make at home, then dressed to the nines for a screening of The Prom and Hamilton from the comfort of our couch.”

“Typically when my wife and I would have a date night, it would be a standard romantic meal out and go for a few drinks. Recently we have been trying different things with us being on lockdown and not able to eat out.

My favorite is having our homemade wine tasting evening. We would go and purchase 7 bottles of wine — 2 white, 2 red, 2 rose, and then a sparkling. It is important that we have not had them before, so we would pick them at random and pay no attention to what the wine is.

We would then go online and print out a wine tasting notes template and pour the 7 glasses of wine. The idea is to then go through each of the wines, tasting them and discussing what we like and what we don’t and then making notes and guessing what type of wine it is, what the flavors are, the aromas, and even try and guess the year.

Once we have filled out the tasting notes, we will go through each wine and score each other a point for every right answer. We then add all the scores and see who won. Combining this with some nibble snacks and music makes for a fun night.”

“Take a virtual tasting of wine and cheese. Of course, you can always snag a bottle of wine and a wheel of Brie for a DIY tasting date. However, expert guidance — whether by video conferencing or written notes in a subscription box — will elevate the experience and render the night extra unique. In addition, studies find that partners who share a learning opportunity have higher relationship satisfaction.”

Jerry HanJerry Han

“One of my best date night ideas is taking your date on a hike. There are a few reasons why I consider this a perfect date night:

  • You get to explore nature and be outdoors. There’s something charming about being surrounded by nature and exploring an area you’ve never been to before. Sharing that with a special someone is exciting and makes it all the more romantic.
  • It removes the awkwardness. Dates can get pretty awkward, but when you’re on the move, exploring nature and encountering different sceneries, there will always be something to talk about, to point out, and to discuss that makes awkward dates a whole lot less awkward.
  • You don’t need to dress up. You can get comfortable, wear your sneakers, shorts, and a t-shirt and don’t have to worry about how you look.
  • You can end it by camping under the stars. If the date goes well, you can always add a bit of romance and enjoy getting cozy in the wilderness as you try to identify the constellations. I’ve always loved the outdoors and always try to take advantage of being out in the open whenever possible.”

“One of the best romantic, budget-friendly date nights with your partner is a picnic by the beach or park.

Stargazing under the stars is one of the best highlights of the night. Try a game of finding patterns in the stars that resemble figures. You and your partner can have a good laugh while doing so.

Make extra preparations by using reusable containers to store your food. The effort of mindfully packing your picnic essentials sustainably can enhance your teamwork and communication with your partner. Don’t forget to throw your trash in the right places too.”

“The best date nights have been ones where we do or see something that is completely new to both of us. It pushes both of us out of our comfort zone and gives us a chance to have a shared first-time experience. Some of my favorites have been:

  • Went to a darts bar like Flight Club. Neither my husband nor I am an expert at darts, but this was way more fun than just sitting and having drinks at a regular bar.
  • Pre-Covid we spent an evening at the Aire Ancient Baths, which transported us from our busy working parent lives to a mini-vacation to ancient times. It was so incredibly relaxing. I think spa days are the best date nights because it’s all about taking care of ourselves and then we always follow it with a nice dinner out.”

Take your significant other out to a lake and hire a canoe for the day. Pack a delicious picnic basket, a blanket, and enjoy having your lunch in the middle of a lake on a canoe.”

“Date night ideas are one of the many things that couples should invest in planning because this greatly affects your overall relationship.

As a relationship expert, there are a lot of date night ideas that are outside the idea of a typical date night. Trying out something different is always memorable, so go ahead and try these date night ideas:

  • Candlelight dinner in your backyard. One of the most romantic date nights is just around your house or even on a rooftop if you have. You can never go wrong with candlelight dinners.
  • Camping. There are a lot of couples that should try other different activities during a date night and one of which is going camping. Nothing beats sleeping under the stars.”

For a date night with my girlfriend, I like to make this stuffed chicken leg with date sauce because it’s pretty easy to prepare in advance and looks impressive. Maybe I’ll make a dessert, like these homemade chocolates to finish the meal.

My girlfriend and I really enjoy watching movies and miss the movie theatre. I make this stovetop popcorn with real butter and sea salt that makes staying in even more fun.”

“As a relationship expert, date nights are the perfect occasion to make your partner feel special and loved. You can make it a little extra by making it a formal date or simple but memorable by creating something unforgettable. However, here are some great date night ideas you can try:

  • Outdoor cinema. You can drive and go to an outdoor cinema. It not only keeps you safe from the virus, but it can also give you a more private movie night outside your home. Ensure that both of you agree to the choice of movie to avoid spoiling the mood.
  • Camping. The view of the night sky is romantic to look at. Find a location where you can camp and have your meals cooked in a bonfire. It can give you a ‘survivor’ feel, which makes it exciting.”

“The pandemic has brought a positive and negative impact on relationships. A couple who do not have time to go outside and are used to seeing each other at home could lead to misunderstanding and conflicts due to work stress and other environmental stressors. As a relationship expert, I believe that it’s important that couples find intimate time to spend together and take the opportunity to do things together. One thing that couples should maintain in the relationship is dating. For couples who are staying together, you can schedule a weekly night date. Make your night special by preparing cocktails and watching a movie together at home. This helps couples to prioritize time together to make connections and open up.”

“Here are some of the best date night ideas:

  • Outdoor cinema: This has been becoming popular once again with today’s generation, so try and enjoy this kind of setup. Some offer an open area where you can dine and sit, while others need you to stay in your car while enjoying the movie.
  • Roadtrip: Traffic tends to be less hassle at night, so you can go for a road trip and stop by to eat at your favorite restaurant or spot.
  • Camping: It’s one of the best ways to enjoy the outdoors with your loved ones. Do some stargazing and set up a bonfire while talking endlessly and enjoying each other’s company.”

“A great date idea for busy parents with kids is what I like to call coffee and conversation sessions.

While the kids are at school or with their grandparents, my husband and I will meet up at a coffee shop for a lunch. A coffee house is a great place to have a good cup of coffee and great conversation. This is the easiest way to squeeze in a date for busy parents.”

“Consider an art activity for the night, such as a personalized paint by numbers canvas. Not only is it a great gift idea, but it can also be a great date activity to spend indoors together. The best part? No artistic talent is needed, simply paint by the numbers to create something unique.

On our website, you’re able to upload your favorite picture. Once you’ve uploaded it, there’s nothing else to worry about. We send everything else needed to paint the masterpiece. This includes paints and brushes.

A huge pro about paint your numbers is that no artistic talent is needed to create a piece. You don’t need to be Picasso to create a beautiful painting — just paint by the numbers to create something truly unique. This is perfect for some of us who still prefer to stay indoors and socially distanced. It can also be considered as a form of art therapy by reducing feelings of anxiety while improving mindfulness, allowing the painter to get into a Zen state of mind and focus.”

“My idea of a perfect date would be something that’s romantic and adventurous at the same time. With the warm weather coming back soon, there’s nothing better than a nice long hike followed by a picnic in the sun. What’s more, you don’t have to worry about pandemic-related restrictions if you choose a more remote area with fewer people around.

All you need to do to have the perfect outdoorsy experience is putting on your walking shoes and letting your fun side take over for a day. Let yourself run wild and free for a bit and I am sure you and your date will have an amazing time together! You can walk through forests, climb some hills, or even chill by a river or a lake — the possibilities are endless. To make it extra fun you can get a disposable barbecue and make some yummy lunch with your date — a perfect opportunity to test how good you guys work as a team! After a day full of adventures, you can curl up with your beau and enjoy a nice glass of wine, while listening to the birds chirping all around you. No matter where you decide to go, I’m sure it will be a date to remember and a perfect opportunity to bond — no
